Writers' Area

Forbes and the Independent Writer

Just a few years ago, a "self-published," author would have been incredibly limited. Your book would probably only be in a couple of formats. You would've had the most luck making it available from your own web site. You would've been resposible for conducting all financial transactions by finding payment processing web sites. This is just if you could've actually sold in the electronic format.

Paper publishing was only a little better. You had a few options, most were pricey, and you were responsible for doing everything, from design, to distribution.

We are not living in those days any longer.

Most of us are having more fun and more succcess than ever when it comes to writing. Writers are no longer hidden away from the world, enslaved by the next mere prospect of publication. Today, we take publishing into our own hands.

Such sites as Smashwords, Kindle, and PubIt have brought electronic publication and awesome distribution to the forefront.

Smashwords has made it into Forbes.com, again. This time, providing information on how the publishing world has changed, and what the new publishing model brings to writers.
